Arrival in Tar Valon and rats

02-15-13

Jasmyne, Esrahd, and Rayenia arrive in Tar Valon. Greeted by Svoran and the clearing of rats and other vermin. Ragnarr makes an appearance.

The Petitioner's Square

No matter which direction the Square is entered from, gorgeous

white marble pavers lead the way in. Scattered throughout the

Square are a few dozen white poplars. The pavers form circles

around the trees and the effect makes it seem almost as if

there is a forest hidden in plain view. In the very center of

this large entryway to the White Tower rests a huge fountain.

The edges of the fountain provide seating for those who need it

while waiting to petition the White Tower.

A large fountain made of white marble.

(NPC) Ragnarr, the perfumed played by Ranulf - retired at 70 is here. (standing)

Rayenia Deanne Sidona [Gray Ajah] is bundled up in her heavy winter cloak. (standing)

Svoran needs Twinkies - go find Balinor. is demanding to know why rodents are on the Tower Grounds. (standing)

Esrahd Ishear [Jasmyne] is here. (standing)

Jasmyne Faea Sidona [Esrahd] is here. (standing)

From the docks, the three rode in precession to the White Tower's stables where the horses were left with the groom. A steward was sent for and their traveling gear sent forward to their individal rooms. The travel weary trio made their way into the square. "Home... Nothing like it. I already wish I was somewhere else." Jasmyne murmurs to her companions. She digs into one of her pouches, one stuffed behind her belt, and takes out a golden ring, and slides it on her left hand.   [Jasmyne]

Rayenia gently pats her sisters arm in an attempt to comfort her.  "It's not all that bad," she does her best to sound cheerful and reassuring.

There's some activity in this main 'reception' area of the Tower.  Rain or shine, winter or summer, certain standards are expected as to the state of the grounds, and there's a sorry crew being sternly overseen as to maintaining those standards.  The labormen got some extra time to themselves, today.  Why?  A bunch of 'the boys' have earned themselves the 'honor' of clearing the square of snow, debris, and undesired rodents.  And their overseer, cloaked and hooded, is keeping his dark eyes firmly fixated on their activities.  "Faster," Beridar's flat voice suddenly says, making it obvious with that one word that he's in a fine mood as far as the objects of his scrutiny are concerned.  [Svoran]

Esrahd is a few steps behind the sisters, an odd smile on his lips at his return. More than a few looks are passed to the trio, of note to the warder, a pair of guards at the gate, one older snapping his heels together and almost saluting Esrahd before gathering himself and grinning sheepishly. Giving the area a broad glance, Esrahd shakes his head slightly at the activity, having caught up to the sedai, he drops his tone slightly as he speaks. "Good to see nothing really changes..."

Jasmyne slips her hand into her sister's, the comforting gesture from their childhood before she realizes it. "Hmm.. So you say." She gives her sibling's hand a squeeze briefly, then releases it. She gives the square a sweeping glance of all the activity. If nothing else, the upkeep is always excellent.

As soon as Rayenia takes in the sight of the activity, and those partaking in it, she is curious.  Having the boys clear away the snow makes sense but what is it exactly that they are chasing off?  Under closer examination the Gray makes note of the rats. "Oh dear, that's not good."  [Rayenia]

Frowning as one frightened rat careens his way, Esrahd pivots slightly and watches it skitter by, his own voice filtering out in answer to Rayneia's rhetoric. "not good at all..." Looking towards the cloaked overseer, Esrahd calls out crisply, "How long has this been happening for ser?"  [Esrahd]

The /vermin/ being chased away, varies.  It's vermin, after all, and the man overseeing this particular light penance of labor in his charges isn't particularly concerned to categorize them to the tooth and claw in such a way that the Brown Ajah would turn Green with envy (or Red with one-upped rage).  "Faster," he says again, still flatly.  The reason for his command is simple: the clearing of the snow isn't going as exhausting as he would like.  They must have been at it for a time already, to have a quarter of the square cleared of the previous night's fall.  Upon being addressed, Beridar turns his head briefly to peer those shadowed dark eyes at Esrahd, before turning back to resume frowning at 'the boys'.  "Too long," he says tersely.  "It shouldn't be happening at all, from what I keep hearing."  [Svoran]

Damn her for not noticing the rats sooner, Jasmyne skips a jump as a frightened rodent careens past her, claws trying to find purchase along stone and snow. "Light!" She manages to kick it off towards one of the 'boys' so he can deal with. Glancing up, she notices the man overseeing the project, but doesnt comment at this point.   [Jasmyne]

"Shoo!" Rayenia waves away the rats while quickly stepping out of the way of those running for their very vermin'y lives.  If it wasn't the boys job to rid the area of them she'd scoot them out with the power.  "Eh.." she pulls her cloak a little closer to her as if it were a shield from their beady eyes and tiny claws.  [Rayenia]

"Too long is probably too long for this not to be under some type of control..." His words are soft enough to be kept to the group for the time being, his frown showing definite hints of disapproval. Stepping around Jasmyne, Esrahd heads towards the centre grounds, passing over the snow and onto cleared area as he surveys the general vacinity. "Look at them... This is a ridiculous number for such a confined area... Has no-one thought to start baiting the grounds?"  [Esrahd]

"I'd think those sisters with you would have far more effect than these boys who will be very sorry for themselves when I get done," Beridar replies dryly, his head turning slightly towards Esrahd again.  Svoran isn't done speaking there, though.  "I'm wondering when one -- oh, there's one.  I guess I have to let him finish earlier than I planned."  Speaking of one of 'the boys' finally noticing the approach of Aes Sedai and offering /very/ proper courtesy.  Yes, this batch is in trouble, because the one that bows, setting off a wave of such, goes right back to work, with arguably even more zeal than before, as if afraid of what the /sisters/ might do to him.  "It's always fun to make them think the sisters will swat them and worse with the Power if they think they're doing it wrong, don't you?"  Blithely spoken, and all of it to Esrahd in a lower tone.  [Svoran]

Stepping lightly through the snow, Jasmyne manages to get to the cleared area with no more incidents of vermin trying to run up her legs. With Esrahd moving over to speak to the overseer, she follows but remains discreetly behind. "Do you recall it being this bad, sister?" Jasmyne asks her elder sibling, the chaos of 'the boys' trying to scare the hearts right out of the tiny beasts seems to do little good in getting any of it under control. Embracing Saidar, a golden nimbus for those who can see it, she weaves a large net across the ground out of Spirit, interlacing Water and Fire within the weave. It spreads across the ground within the square. For any one standing there, they might think they stepped in cold water, but for the vermin skittering around, they drop dead on the spot.   [Jasmyne]

Rayenia shakes her head in response.  "No, it wasn't this bad when I left," noting that her sister has embraced saidar, she does as well.  Doing her best to avoid the fleeing vermin she moves across from Jasmyne, opposite of her and more in the middle of the boys who are slaving away.  She weaves thin, deliberate, whips of air towards the fleeing vermin in effort to direct them out the gates or to the Yellow's web.

Esrahd chuckles at the comment, head nodding slowly as he watches the lads. At the slap of Jasmyne's weave, the rats falls, some skidding in mid run or simply flopping over, causing a new ruccous for the lads as the chase siddenly stops. Meeting the overseers gaze, Esrahd shurgs slightly "Fear of the Sedai has always been a good training mechanism... Especially if they have to use their powers because a certain group of boys aren't fast enough..." He lets that hang, his tone having dropped for the man's ears only. His smile has grown almost vicious though.

(OoC)-> Jasmyne says, 'Esrahd is trying to set up Svor and Raye'

You cheer Svoran on!

You cheer Rayenia on!

You snicker softly.

Esrahd bows deeply.

Esrahd bows deeply.

You grin evilly at him.

Ranulf comforts Rayenia.

(OoC)-> Rayenia says, 'nice'

There's a decided snort from Esrahd's talking companion, one he doesn't bother to keep under low volume.  It's a snort, after all.  "You and I both know that it's better this not be necessary in the first place," Svoran replies sourly.  "I don't need to say all the reasons why, either.  At best this is just something to keep these idiot boys busy while I think up worse things to do to them without abusing them, though one of them came close to earning that this morning."  [Svoran]

With most of the rats dead, Jasmyne waits for Rayenia to 'sweep' the rest of the vermin into her net. Once she is sure that her sister has chased them all out the gate or into the web, Jasmyne releases the weave, then the One Power. Unfortunately, one or two of the squirrels had been on the ground and got caught up in the weave, but the rest were safely up in the trees, peering out of their nests at all the commotion. Catren would be happy to know at least a couple were dead. "Well, that was some nasty business." She brushes her hands together in a dust off manner.   [Jasmyne]

The faint glow of saidar fades away as Rayenia has finished sweeping the vermin towards her siblings net.  Now that there are less of the little buggars she looks towards the boys.  "Now," her tone is firm, "gather those up and for the love of the Light make sure you are wearing gloves, gather those up and destroy them."  She folds her arms across her chest, left hand on top of her right arm, the glint of her ring visible, "and you'd better be moving before I count to five."  [Rayenia]

Bundled up in an unusual pair of cloaks, travel worn furs beneath the tell-tale fancloth, with a pack slung over his shoulder and smelling distantly of perfume, Rags strides into the courtyard from the Tower's entry beside a steward. The man's posture is tense and the conversation seems strained and at a near end, with the bearish man grousing, "I was only gone, a few what? Already moved me out. It was a good place, and that's no error!" With the steward supplying politely, "Years, Gaiden?" [NPC played by Ranulf]

Rayenia counts aloud, directing her voice to the boys who should be hopping-to right now, "One..."

[Esrahd had a iRL emergancy and had to duck out for the rest of the RP. We went on without him.]

Needless to say, there's alacrity from the objects of Rayenia's counting.  And their minder is perfectly happy to let her take charge of them this time, if his words to Esrahd were any hint previously.  So while they're scrambling to follow her orders (they're already wearing gloves in this weather, so that's taken care of), Svoran's mouth is twitching suspiciously, before that little business at the gates catches the corner of his eye.  There's a frown for the ragamuffin, more so for the obvious cloak denoting presumed station in life, but Beridar says nothing at first.  [Svoran]

Jasmyne shifts off to the side, away from the scurry of men trying to do an Aes Sedai's bidding. It doesn't take them long to pile up the tiny bodies into piles of fur and claws. Jasmyne slowly approaches one of these piles, while the men working move awkwardly around her. Embracing once more, the Yellow sister covers her mouth and nose with her gloved hand, then weaves a thick thread of Fire the diameter of her pinky. Probably too much, but she detests these creatures. She sends the bolt of flames into the first pile. Satisfied that the creatures are burning, she moves on to the next one to do the same. The stench is horrific.

After seeing the boys spring to action she ceaces her counting but maintains that do-not-fool-with-me expression on her face.  As the smell of buring flesh and fur rises in the crisp winter air Rayenia draws her hand up to shield her nose and mouth from inhaling the fetid scent.    [Rayenia]

"Besides, Sir, It was hardly a fitting accomodation. Old rumors and whatnot." The Steward states with a well concealed smirk, "We've found you far more suitable accomodations, and moved your things there ages back."  The bearish men grumbles and offers a dismissive curse as he wanders away from the steward and over to inspect one of the burning piles of rodent. [NPC played by Ranulf]

The vermin situation now well in hand and settled, Rayenia's mind is free to focus on other things.  As Ragnarr approaches the burning vermin the heat stirs up the perfume soaked into his personage.  Now the smell of flesh, fur, and flowers begin to soak the air.  It is then that she recognizes the man.  She looks to her sister and quickly makes her way over to her.  "That man," she gestures gently towards Ragnarr, "he was at the Inn."  [Rayenia]

Still covering her mouth and nose to avoid gagging on the stench, Jasmyne glances to her sister in mid channeling. "Who was?" She asks her elder sibling, her attention resuming on creating a chimney of Air to draw the heat and stench above their heads. When Ragnarr approaches her handywork, the Yellow sister stares at him briefly, "So, it is." Her gaze shifts down his form, noting the similar cloak her own warder wears. "Hmm."   [Jasmyne]

"Well, at least there's something nicer to smell other than burning rats," Svoran says out loud, dryly.  His dark eyes, obscured as they are with that hood up, are quite obviously amused at catching a hint of perfume as he regards the approach of the drunken lech in fancloth.  There aren't any greetings, just that dry, snarky bit of for-everyone-to-hear commentary.  "I'm rather interested to know where the woman who did that to you got the scent from.  I can think of a few uses for it."  As evidenced by his glancing to the right, as snow work continues.  [Svoran]

Ragnarr glances distractedly towards Svoran, "Hmm? Oh, no, it was from a man." He rolls his shoulders into an absent shrug and prods the smoldering pile with a worn-out booted toe, "Who let the vermin in?" [NPC played by Ranulf]

Rayenia's hand returns to help shield her mouth and nose from the terrible smell.  As Ragnarr speaks, explaining how he was doused, by a Child of the Light no less, she does her best to hide a smile. The situation was quite funny.  "Sir, if we had known you were Gaidin," she begins, addressing Ragnarr, "we could have perhaps helped?"

Jasmyne listens between gaidin and her sister, her cerulean gaze sweeping over his face, recognizing him from the inn before they left Caemlyn. But then something dawns on her and she blanches at the sight of him. She abruptly turns and heads over to where her now silent warder stands.

You tell the group, '(bondsense) panic. revulsion. '

"The more I hear, the more I'm curious."  The wry tone to Beridar's reply to Ragnar should make it more than obvious what's on his mind, if the twitch at his mouth doesn't.  Oh the things that could be said right now.  "And who might you be otherwise, when you're not all prettied by men?"  Another twitch at the mouth, even if it doesn't lessen the intense scrutiny of Svoran's hard eyes.  There might be a glance for Jasmyne Sedai's blanching, but all that occurs is for Beridar to mark the reaction, and to await the response from the subject of his inquiry.  [Svoran]

Ragnarr's lips tug into a grin as he rolls over a rat with his toe before leaving the carcass be in the flames, "Though I suppose you're right.  The perfume just came from the man. The real fun was the washerwoman who bathed me.. Still." He shrugs and glances back towards those about, offering a respectful nod, and perhaps a soft smile. "When I'm not prettied up by men and washerwomen, I'm usually a conversationalist. But I'm a little sour at the moment. Been awhile." [NPC played by Ranulf]

Jasmyne busies herself with her cloak, tugging it around her a little more. She maintains her hold on Saidar, and the weave to funnel the smoke above their heads. At least until the last of the corpses are charred. She glances at Rayenia, then to Svoran, but she is decidedly NOT looking at Ragnarr. For all intents and purposes, she is still focused on her weaving.

Rayenia isn't quite certain how to proceed.  She decides not to press the issue however.  Instead she pulls her cloak a little closer to her and moves to stand beside Jasmyne.

"Washerwomen know what they're about," is all Svoran has to say with the hint of something that might be approaching a sagacious nod.  It's a bare inclination of the head to go with a slightly thoughtful tone.  "If only these boys had their zeal for work, though."  There's a distinct look given to the motley crew of snow shovelers.  "When you feel the conversationalist, come find me, I have questions for you if you're returning.  In the meantime, I think these boys need a little more physical incentive they're not going to get with everyone watching them."  Which translates to barking orders at those boys.  The usual things come out of Beridar's mouth: they're each on the verge of public lessons in sparring; rustication threats; promises of beating them senseless with those shovels if they can't use them with a little more gusto.  Either way, someone is going back to his business of keeping things moving along here.  [Svoran]

Ragnarr nods to Svoran simply, "Returning, but perhaps also leaving. After I find whoever it was that took my quarters, at least. Still, I'll find you for a mug of ale later. It would be good to learn of what's happened in my absence." He glances back towards the pair of Aes Sedia, and blinks dimly, "Err, Pardon, was it me you were speaking with, Aes Sedai?" [NPC played by Ranulf]

Rayenia nods to Ragnarr.  "Yes, I was."  She pauses for a moment, wondering how much of the time in the Inn's common room that he really remembers clearly.

Jasmyne continues to keep her gaze on the smoldering piles, her gaze twitching around as Svoran barks out orders. Esrahd mutters something close to her ear. With a nod, she offers him a warm smile. He turns on his heel and heads for the barracks. Sighing, Jasmyne squares her shoulders and forces herself to stand beside her sister with an unreadable expression.

[This is when I received the tell from Esrahd saying he had an emergancy, which is when I emoted him leaving.]

Ragnarr nods his head slowly in understanding, "Ahh, A thousand pardons, Aes Sedai. Hm, helping it was you were saying? Why would I have needed help?" [NPC played by Ranulf]

Rayenia briefly glances to her sister before her eyes return to Ragnarr.  "You see, we were there when the gentleman doused you with the perfume."

Jasmyne inclines her head a fraction in agreement. Otherwise, she remains silent.

Ragnarr's eyebrows knit in further confusion but he shakes his head, "Ahh, no matter Aes Sedai. Even the one power has it's limits when it comes to pulling smells away. Besides, the perfume was no true danger. The water, now that might've been, but all it did was leave icicles in a few uncomfortable places. I think the lass used greeting water. Good stuff that, not like the fouled drinking kind. Though light alone knows where she got enough of it to douse a fellow." [NPC played by Ranulf]

Rayenia blinks, surprised.  "It was a considerable amount of water for a young woman so petite."  For once the Gray seems to be looking for words.  "I am presuming that you did not become ill after your venture into the water?"

"He was unceremoniously dumped into the horse's trough, if I recall." Jasmyne pipes in, her eyes squint as she looks him over, "You look terrible. Have you gained weight?" Did she say that aloud?   [Jasmyne]

You innocently whistle a tune.

Ranulf falls to the floor from laughing so much.

(OoC)-> Rayenia says, 'lol'

(OoC)-> Rayenia says, 'I seriously just choked on my tea'

You fall to the floor from laughing so much.

Upon hearing Jasmyne's words Rayenia blinks several times.  She catches herself from looking to the Yellow however she does bring her left hand to cover her mouth quite quickly, likely to hide the open jaw look of shock that her siblings words has evoked.  [Rayenia]

Ragnarr glances between the two women and offers a toothy grin, "It'd take more than a potful of poison to fell me, Aes Sedai, and in small doses like that, it's right good for a fellow. Builds up resistances." Focusing more on Jasmyne, he pats his belly happily, "Winter insulation, and it's a mighty long winter. Still, seems most folks have never minded it too much. Leastways, no one ever says, 'Rags, you're uglier than you were'... well, not often." [NPC played by Ranulf]

Jasmyne gives a small shrug of her slender shoulders, "Merely a passing curiosity, and not the poison it was taken for." Its about as much apology he will get from the Yellow sister. "If you plan on remaining, though, you should consider some laps around the training yard."

"Sister," she uses the title instead of the affectionate, "he has only but arrived home.  Perhaps a warm meal and the comforts of home before exerting himself."  Rayenia's trying to be diplomatic.  Good Cop, Bad Cop.  [Rayenia]

Ragnarr gives a mild shake of his shaggy head, "No, the washerwomen didn't have enough water to be truly poisonous. Not safe, that stuff, even freshly drawn up like you lot sometimes do, but not taken for. As for the training yard, I.. err, probably ought to head on back now." He hefts his pack to his shoulder, in demonstration, "Lass heading back this way and all that, you see..." [NPC played by Ranulf]

"Nonsense." Jasmyne grins with an almost wicked glint, "Esrahd has been itching to spar one of his fellow brothers since we decided to return. Once you've settled in, go look for him." She tilts her head as though listening to something before continueing, "Mayhaps tomorrow when you've both rested up from traveling."   [Jasmyne]

(OoC)-> Jasmyne says, 'Planning my bondmate's dates. '

You stare at the sky.

Ranulf grins evilly.

Rayenia nods to Ragnarr politely, attempting to encourage him, "This is true, he has been looking forward to practice."  She looks to Jasmyne, "It would be interesting to watch him practice."

Smiling wolfishly, Rags nods his head, answering, "It'd be rather fun, I reckon. Tell him I'll meet him there a little after breakfast." Although from his grin and his happy wave, all while his feet carry him away from the tower, it seems highly likely that the man is flaunting his one ability that no proper Aes Sedai ought - lying through his bloody teeth.  [NPC played by Ranulf]

"I've seen him in the yards before, he's quite good." Jasmyne replies with a hint of pride in her tone, "But we've been traveling awhile and practicing sword forms is not the same as sparring." Smirking slightly, the Yellow sister watches Ragnarr as he turns to leave, "I'll be sure to let him know." she calls out, but with his retreating back she glances at her sister with a roll of her eyes.  [Jasmyne]

Rayenia bites her tongue to keep from laughing at Jasmyne's eyerolling.  She does not speak but she does smile and politely waves after Ragnarr.
