Dreaming With Toriko
Lesson One
Date of Log: 01/21/01

This is the first lesson with Toriko regarding dreaming. Due to the wipe in January 2002, I've had to rearrange some of the reasons how Jezz came to know she was a dreamer and why she went to find someone to teach her. However, I didnt want to mess with the log too much in consideration of the rp that took place at the time.

Jezz and she have a pleasent if uncomfortable meal. Deric leaves his tent, leaving you two alone once it is late enough. [Toriko]

Jezz leans back, slightly uncomfortable but trying not to show it, having masked all emotions with the a calm serenity, albit forced.

Toriko pulls out a small red book. It is well worn but in good condition and bound in leather. She treats the thing reverntly. After flipping few a few pages it is offered to you. It appears to be a hand-written log of plants and their effects. The writting is small and precice with no flourishes or adornments. It runs from one edge of the page to the other, not bothering with margins. The pictures are well reandered and hand drawn. Next to each plant is a short description of its function, dossage. Some plants have a note written in Old Tounge as well.

Jezz accepts the book, treating the book as reverently as the Wise One. Her eyes brighten slightly to reading something new. Her eyes scan the words, the page reflecting in her emerald eyes, reading even whats in Old Tongue.

On this page, the plant her finger indicates seems to be one that induces a natural sleep. It has no effect on anyones ability to touch the One Power, so the script claims, and it will allow the person to wake refreshed and clear minded. It is to be mixed in tea. In Old Tounge it mentions that when this leaf is mixed with rennat root and talseem it will produce a poison that seizes the brain causing paralysis or death. [Toriko]

Jezz finishes reading the text and looks up at Toriko, asking softly, "Do you wish me to take this herb, Wise One?" while pointing her finger to the indicated plant. With another glance to the page, as if rereading the information, "Do you have it on hand? Or do we need to find it? Does it grow in this area?" Her eyes glance back up at Toriko, "My apologies for my lack of knowledge in this area. Study of herbs is highly frowned upon in the White Tower. Most consider the One Power sufficint enough for Healing."

Toriko retreives the book, placing it gently beside her before she pulls out a small leather pouch from her cat-skill bag. It loos exactly like every other pouch she pulled out of it for making tea. She holds it to you and tilts her head. There is a curious permissive look on her face.

Jezz leans forward to take whiff of the herb, as if memorizing the smell, then gives a nod to Toriko. "I will take it, though, I dont think I need much help sleeping." She grins slightly then suppresses a yawn with one hand.

Toriko offers you a comiserate smile. Hot water is summoned with a small gong and she again begins the cerimony of making tea. It seems a very important task to her. The woman slides the steaming cup over to you, then takes one of her own.

Jezz watches silently as Toriko makes tea only smiling slightly in responce to the Wise One's smile. Accepting the cup of tea, Jezz brings it up to her lips and inhales deeply, again memorizing the smell. She looks over to Toriko to signal to drink.

Toriko brings her cup to her lips and takes the barest of sips. This is not uncommon for the woman. Throughout the night it seems she has only been wetting her lips.

Jezz smiles softly behind the cup of tea and takes her own sip of tea, letting the hot liquid touch her lips, blowing on it softly before letting any slide down her throat.

The more you drink the more quickly it wil effect you. The smell of it will also make you sleepy. Toriko sets her cup gently down on its tray and begins to prepare blankets and pillows for two people. [Toriko]

Jezz's eyes become heavy the more she sips. Before she knows it she is swaying in her seated position and blinking her eyes. She sets the cup down unsteadily before she drops it.

Toriko is there beside you. Warm and comforting hands help you rise and then lower you onto the bed. Shortly you are hazily aware of the woman laying down next to you, that is when you slip into dreams.

Jezz lets the Wise One guide her to the blankets, as soon as her head hits the pillow, her eyes close and her breathing becomes shallow as if in sleep. Her body becomes slightly limp. Her dream begins with her running, as they always do.

Toriko needs no tea to make her sleep. She simply slips immedatly into the endless speckled void of night's stars. There is one blooming into existance right beside her, opening its pinprick of bright light into Jezz's dream.

There is nothing but forest, thick branches seem to seek her out, trying to claw at her and trip over her as she runs past. She looks back behind her frantically for something unseeable. After a few moments of running, she suddenly bursts from the forest into a quant meadow surrounded on all sides by thick forest. A stream runs through the meadow but on either side, the foilage seems to choke any passage of anything else. Jezz turns in circles looking all around her. [Jezz]

Toriko floats in oblivion, allowing the screaming silence to wrap itself about her. For these few brief moments she is free. Morbidly curious she peers into the buble of a dream right next to her. Then she pushes herself through the maliable surface of the dream. It takes her a moment to aclimate herself to the setting. For now she is the silent and invisiable observer, watching god-like from the celing of the dream, her presance undetectable. When Jezz finds the clearing she sets herself there. She gives herself form and shape exactly like that in the waking world. [Toriko]

Jezz blinks suddenly and stops to stare at Toriko. Jezz looks over her shoulder for a moment towards the forest, giving a slight shudder before composing herself. Turning to look back at Toriko, she smiles. "To dream of something more pleasant is certainly a surprise." Almost a murmer to herself, her conscious mind not fully realizing its actually the Wise One.

Toriko nods her head to you, "At least you realise you are dreaming. That is a very important thing to hold when you are in your own dream." The voice drifts around you, perfect, soothing. It carries so much more an emotive quality than any other voice in reality, and it almost seems tactile.

Jezz smiles slightly and gives a bare nod of her head, "More like nightmares, Wise One. But yes, I know my nightmares. They have woken me from slumber for many years." Her face colors slightly from the admission.

Toriko smiles warmly at you, "We all have nightmares. I have stopped dreaming my own dreams because of them. Sometimes the touch of a nightmare can slip into Tel'aran'rhiod, much like normal people sometimes touch it. They, however, linger. These creations of human fear are vile and deadly. We destroy them as a matter of course, but those who are not trained can die from their touch."

Jezz frowns slightly, taking in the information. Giving a slight nod of understanding, "I would not wish my nightmares in Tel'aran'rhiod. I do not think I would survive them a second time." Her last sentence seems to have a deeper meaning.

Toriko's detached voice is curious, probing. It seems that carries a life of its own, a will seperate from the woman who should be speaking it, "What training did you expect the Wise Ones to give you?"

Jezz sighs slightly, her nightmare slipping back into the depths of her subconscious. The terraine changes dramatically with taking a breath. Both woman stand on a small hillock over looking a vineyard. A large house in the distance and beyond that a village. On top of the hillock is a single, very large oak tree. Jezz ponders the questions, not giving the change much thought. "The first time I remember touching, I didnt know what I was doing. I was.. in a situation." Very briefly, if one blinked the image would be gone of a woman bound with shackles on wrists and ankles connecting to chain to the collar around the neck. The image is detached and Jezz glances over to the figure. As if looking at herself in the third person.

Jezz shudders and the image is gone in a blink. "I.. went searching for help. Not knowing what I was doing... I thought it a hallucination... but when the person I cantacted had the wounds I had seen in Tel'aran'rhiod..." She gives a slight shrug then looks back to Toriko, "I speak more then I should. I am hoping the Wise Ones.. you.. will train me in as much as you know. I have looked in the White Tower Library. The last Dreamer was over 500 years and everything is cryptic." She frows slightly, "I keep hearing that if one doesnt know what they are doing, they could die." As if suddenly something dawning on her, she glances around and peers around her as if studying it. "We are in Tel'aran'rhiod now?"

Toriko shakes her head, "We are not in Tel'aran'rhiod now. It is very dangerous and as you might guess a very powerful tool. IT is not something that is easily parted with. Why should I train you anymore than the ability to remove yourself from the shared dream?"

Jezz tilts her head to study Toriko for a moment, "I dont think any reason would be reason enough. For personal, selfish reasons, I wish to know more, to learn more. To know how to use the gift I was given. On the other hand, if you grow to trust me, I would be an ally to you and your people. I know the friction between your people and the White Tower. From this alone," with one hand gesturing to what could only be the dream she is refering to, "I know We dont know everything there is. Perhaps we can learn from each other. Much has been lost since the Age of Legends. More from the Trolloc Wars."

Toriko shakes her head and the voice that dances around you is laced with iron, "You chose the wrong teacher then. Any trip to Tel'aran'rhiod would bring the eyes of the shadowsouled upon you. I am not a diplomat, pretty words are for other Wise Ones tounges. The friction between the Aes Sedai and the Aiel is theirs to oil, not mine. I do not wish to see you, or anyone else die from their lack of knowledge, but I see no reason why I should risk your life for your personal and selfish thirst for knowledge."

Jezz frowns slightly giving a slight nod and sigh in responce, "My apologies. I am of the Green Ajah.  I am here to learn, not wage battle. Hence, why I have not worn my ring while within the Aiel camp. As for stating my selfish reason for learning, I was giving you the truth without lacing my words with honey without any meaning. I wish to be truthful with who will guide and teach me. If you do not wish to teach someone who is straight forward with you at the beginning, that is your call." Her words and tone seem honestly spoken without any acid added.

Toriko's green eyes, seeming impossiably green in the filtered light of the dream, slide to the side in a considering mannor. "I will think on this, however you must remeember that being straightfoward is not so impressive to the Aiel. Except for the Shaido and certain others, we do not lie. Being forthcomming to a Wise One is expected as a matter of course. I will meet you at least one more time in the dream to teach you how to wake yourself from it." It is as if the voice is pulled back into her as she speaks the last, for the first time sounding normal, "Sleep to Wake Aes Sedai." Then the woman simply fades. The diffinition the color of her brushed away like the sun kisses away the morning fog. You are left only with the memory of desert sage, alone in your dreams again.

Jezz watches Toriko slip from her dreams, pondering the Aiel Wise One. She frowns slightly, "Sleep to wake Wise One" She whispers to the silence. She ponders the woman's words but before long, her dreams shift.
